Located at the corner of Calle 60 and 57, Centro, the oldest and most beautiful theater in Mérida owes its name to the Yucatecan poet, novelist, playwright, doctor, and politician José Peón Contreras (1843-1907). As soon as you enter the theater you will be amazed at the detail of the architectural elements. Walk through its ample vestibule to the monumental marble staircase that takes you to the upper lobby and the theater. From this level’s terrace you have a view of Calle 60.
