MODEL – Sarah
When Sarah, a Platinum Blonde in Merida, first walked into Robert Abuda Salon, she, self-admittedly was skeptical. Originally from New York, she had just moved to Merida, Mexico in the Yucatan Peninsula from California, 5 months earlier. During her first 6 months in Merida, she struggled to find someone she was confident in to take her back to her regular Platinum Blonde.
The Consultation
We always insist on thorough and pre-booked consultations when doing any drastic color change. After a 15-minute sit-down with Sarah, discussing her previous hair history, lifestyle, and hair goals we came up with a plan.
As Sarah mentioned, she was happy to see I had a “healthy amount of skepticism”, because in her words, “I’ve only had luck with hair stylists, who are a bit anxious before starting a complicated process like this. If it was easy, everybody would be doing it, right?”
“Right…”, I replied cautiously. Naturally, I was going to use Olaplex in every step of the process. Olaplex, the world’s only bond builder, relinks your broken disulfide hair bonds, and is essential in any technical process. Not only does it mitigate further hair damage, but it also leaves your hair much healthier, shinier, with less frizz than before your chemical service. When your hair is healthier, your hair color doesn’t wash or fade out nearly as much.
The Process
Laura and I started the process by applying lightener mixed with Olaplex No. 1, working from the nape of the neck to her forehead in the reverse fashion. Mixing 10 volume developer with Pravana’s Lightener, We applied it 2.5 cms away from the scalp, all the way down the length of the hair. As we worked my way up to the forehead, we gradually increased the level of developer until we reached Lightener with 25 Vol.
After that, we applied the Pravana lightener with 10 volume Olaplex to her roots. However, since the scalp produces heat, this immediate area needs less processing time, so therefore needs to be done near the end, otherwise it will over-process. Doing this tiny area first, allows all of the hair to process evenly which helps to gives us a very even-colored end result.
Results
We needed to reach an even blond. Next, we apply the appropriate toners. In this instance, we used a mix of Pravana’s Violet and Beige 5-minute Express toners along with Balmain Hair Couture’s Violet Shampoo. Finally, we finished by using Olaplex No. 4 Shampoo, No. 5 Conditioner, and No. 6 Styling Cream.
The end result was an Icy Platinum Blonde which Sarah was thrilled with.
