The Process
This particular hair transformation presented Hair Stylists Merida, ANNIE and Robert Abuda with multiple challenges. The client requested a transitional color going from Fire Red to Burnt Orange to Vibrant Yellow. First of all, we had to lighten the hair with Pravana’s Power Lightener and 20 vol. This gave us a slow and even lift which maintains the integrity of the hair.
When it comes to lightening remember the mantra. “Slow and steady wins the race”. To give us extra insurance for the hair, and to repair those broken disulfide bonds, we always add Olaplex to our formula. After reaching a very pale yellow, think the inside of a banana peel, we wash and dry the hair using Olaplex Shampoo and Conditioner. We included a 10 minute Olaplex No. 2 treatment.
After drying the hair, we applied our first direct dye (red) 3 cms from the root. Next we followed that with the second color (orange). Then we applied the third shade (yellow).
When processing for 30 minutes has finished, simply rinse with cold water without shampoo for longevity and dry and style.
This process took ANNIE and I, 5 hours. By taking our time, and using Olaplex every step, our clients hair actually came out shinier and healthier than before.
